Job Description
Postdoctoral position, Emmons laboratory, Cell adhesion proteins in synaptic connectivity. A postdoctoral position is available in the Emmons laboratory, Albert Einstein College of Medicine, Bronx, NY. The laboratory is studying the role that neural cell adhesion proteins play in specifying synaptic connectivity in the nervous system of the nematode C. elegans. The laboratory is a leader in the field of connectomics. We seek to understand how neural cell adhesion proteins function as a code to specify the connectivity of a neural network that governs C. elegans male mating behavior. We determined the connectivity of this network; see Jarrell et al., 2012, Science 337, 437-444. (This paper won the Newcomb Cleveland Prize for best paper in Science. Emmons described the work in a Presidential Special Lecture at the Society for Neuroscience Annual Meeting, 2013.) We apply a combination of genetic, biochemical, and computational approaches to the problem of molecular specification of synaptic connections in neural circuits.
Applicants should have advanced research training in a scientific discipline with a demonstrated record of significant publications. Prior experience with C. elegans or neuroscience research is not required. Those interested in expanding their training in the areas of neuroscience and C. elegans research, with a view towards pursuing a research career in these areas, are encouraged to apply. Recent PhD graduates especially encouraged. You must not be more than 4 years post PhD. Please send your CV to Donna Lombardi at Donnalombardi@einstein.yu.edu
Salary follows NIH guidelines commensurate with years post PhD.
