Job Description
This postdoctoral position is a temporary position for up to one year, which may be renewed at Sandia's discretion up to five additional years. The PhD must have been conferred within five years prior to employment. Individuals in postdoctoral positions may bid on regular Sandia positions as internal candidates, and in some cases may be converted to regular career positions during their term if warranted by ongoing operational needs, continuing availability of funds, and satisfactory job performance. : We are seeking a Postdoctoral Appointee to focus on cutting-edge research and development (R&D) in parallel algorithms and programming models for next-generation high performance computing (HPC) architectures. The goal of this R&D is to provide a breadth of applications with algorithmic patterns and high-quality software (delivered through Sandia’s Kokkos library) that will enable these applications to realize their full performance potential on exascale HPC architectures. This position offers the opportunity for motivated and enthusiastic researchers to be at the center of cross-domain collaborations among HPC application and library development; programming language standards evolution; compiler, runtime, hardware R&D; and national laboratories, universities, and HPC vendors. On any given day you may be called on to: + Collaborate with colleagues across application-to-hardware domains + Consult with application teams to introduce parallel algorithms + Conceive and improve strategies for parallel algorithms + Publish in journals and conferences, and present at national and international venues + Develop high-quality softwareRequired:
+ PhD, conferred within 5 years prior to employment, in computer science, mathematics, or related engineering or science discipline + Experience with developing software in the C++ language, including the use of templates + Experience with shared memory parallel programming (e.g., CUDA, OpenMP, OpenACC, “raw threads”) + Technical publications in HPC conferences and journals, or released software used by applications
Desired:
+ Experience with parallel algorithm research and software development for applications and/or mathematical libraries + Experience contributing to large and long-lived applications or libraries utilizing software quality engineering practices, processes, and tools + Communication and interpersonal skills for effectively working in multi-disciplinary teams of mathematicians, engineers, and scientists + Experience with parallel linear algebra, parallel graph algorithms, or parallel data structures + Experience utilizing high-concurrency architectures such as NVIDIA GPU or Intel Xeon Phi + Experience with using Sandia’s Kokkos library

The Scalable Algorithms Department is focused on developing new algorithms and approaches to address the challenges posed by next-generation computing hardware. The department intends to use its expertise in applied mathematics and computational science to address these challenges and help define the future of computing. Security Clearance:
This position does not currently require a Department of Energy (DOE)-granted security clearance. Sandia will conduct a pre-employment drug testing, and a pre-employment background review that includes personal reference checks, law enforcement record checks, and employment and education verifications. Further, employees in New Mexico must pass a U.S. Air Force background screen for access to the work site. Substance abuse or illegal drug use, falsification of information, criminal activity, serious misconduct or other indicators of untrustworthiness can cause access to be denied or terminated, rendering the inability to perform the duties assigned and resulting in termination of employment. If hired without a clearance, and one subsequently becomes required or you bid on positions that require a DOE-granted security clearance, a pre-processing background review that includes personal reference checks, law enforcement record and credit checks, and employment and education verifications may be conducted prior to a required federal background investigation.
