Postdoctoral Fellow in Experimental Immunology

The Ye (UCSF) and Shastri (UC Berkeley) labs are seeking two exceptional experimental postdoctoral fellows to lead the characterization of antigen processing peptidases in the human genome. We seek to understand how common variants of ERAP1 and ERAP2 maintained by natural selection affect antigen presentation, myeloid and lymphoid cell function using in vitro tools and in vivo models. To do this, we will apply state of the art genomic, proteomics, genome engineering and genetic approaches.

Us: We are a dynamic, collaborative team at UCSF and UC Berkeley who have recently received an NIH award to jointly study the mechanisms by which natural variants of ERAP1 and ERAP2 predispose individuals to autoimmunity and infectious disease. The labs have significant and complementary expertise in computational and experimental genomics, classical and systems immunology as well as mouse and human genetics. We have published extensively on the genetic determinants of transcriptional variation in immune cells (Ye lab) and characterization of antigen processing and presentation pathways (Shastri lab).

You: You must be an independent, motivated, creative and enthusiastic individual with a background in experimental immunology. Excellent communication and organization skills are a must. The successful candidate should be experienced in molecular biology (PCR, and cloning), measurement of immune responses, primary cell cultures, and developing in vivo mouse models. Additional skills in genomic technologies is a plus including preparation of sequencing libraries and CRISPR/Cas9 genome editing. You must be able to interact with experts in other disciplines such as functional genomics, molecular biology, immunology and clinical sciences. Anticipated start date is June 1, 2018.

Qualifications:

• PhD in immunology, molecular biology or relevant field.

• Previous research experience in a molecular biology research laboratory required. Experiences in genomic technologies such as RNA-seq and CRISPR/Cas9 genome engineering is preferred.

• Demonstrated previous research experience through at least one first-author publication in a reputable journal.

• Must be able to solve complex problems in a creative and effective way.

• Excellent communication skills and the ability to interact professionally with all levels of staff in a fast-paced environment.

• Exceptional organizational and critical thinking skills, lab notebook practices and attention to detail are essential.
