　　Independent, energetic individuals with research experience in either cell biology or biochemistry and an interest in neurobiology/endocrinology are sought for an established laboratory at the University of Maryland School of Medicine in Baltimore between now and January 1, 2019. The laboratory is focused on understanding the regulation of peptide hormone and neuropeptide synthesis by the maturation enzymes known as proprotein convertases, implicated in diabetes and obesity as well as in neural signaling. We also study small secretory chaperones, specifically with regard to blocking protein aggregation in neurodegenerative disease.

　　The major project involves the study of human prohormone convertase polymorphisms in new CRISPR/Cas9 mouse models and endocrine cell lines; in particular, effects on hypothalamic cell biology, chaperone binding, and peptide hormone production. A secondary project will address the role of endogenous secretory chaperones in Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s cell and animal models.
