Job Description
Job title: Postdoctoral fellow
Job description: Applications are invited for a full-time postdoctoral position in the laboratory of Dr. Silvia Montaner, in the Department of Oncology and Diagnostic Sciences at the University of Maryland at Baltimore (UMB). Funding is available immediately on a 5-year NIH-sponsored project. Our laboratory focuses on the molecular mechanisms by which Angiopoietin-like 4 (ANGPTL4) promotes angiogenesis and vascular hyperpermeability. Ongoing studies in our lab include biochemical, molecular, cellular, and experimental animal approaches to better understand the molecular mechanisms by which ANGPTL4 causes retinal vascular hyperpermeability and macular edema (ME). ME is the most common cause of vision loss in patients with ischemic retinopathies and the leading cause of severe vision impairment in working-age Americans.
Qualifications and experience: Ideal candidates will have an MD and/or PhD with a strong background in cell and molecular biology. Candidate should be able to work independently and be skillful in oral and written research communication. A background in vascular biology and/or signal transduction is desirable.
E-mail a curriculum vitae, a letter stating research interests and contact information for three references to smontaner@umaryland.edu.
