摘要:

We're currently looking for talented scientists to join our innovative academic-style Postdoc. From our centre in Cambridge, UK you'll be in a global pharmaceutical environment, contributing to live projects right from the start. You'll take part in a comprehensive training programme, including a focus on drug discovery and development, given access to our existing Postdoctoral research, and encouraged to pursue your own independent research in cutting edge laboratories. It's a newly expanding programme spanning a range of therapeutic areas across a wide range of disciplines.

AstraZeneca (AZ) is a global, innovation-driven biopharmaceutical business that focuses on the discovery, development and commercialisation of prescription medicines for some of the world's most serious diseases. But we're more than one of the world's leading pharmaceutical companies. At AZ, we're proud to have a unique workplace culture that inspires innovation and collaboration. Here, employees are empowered to express diverse perspectives – and are made to feel valued, energised and rewarded for their ideas and creativity.

In our Oncology Team, you'll push the boundaries of science every day to overcome that challenge. We've been at the centre of some of the biggest breakthroughs in oncology. In lung cancer, for example, we've brought together complementary expertise to aid discovery and accelerate development in new medicines through a variety of partnerships and initiatives. We're also early adopters of new technologies to support innovation, including CRISPR, genome editing techniques and a next-generation sequencing platform for companion diagnostics in oncology. But we're not stopping there. With a world-class pipeline and some of the best experts in the industry, we're in a great position to develop even more innovative therapeutic approaches.

AZ has a proven track record in the field of covalent enzyme inhibition, most recently culminating in the approval of the covalent, irreversible EGFR inhibitor TAGRISSO. This is a unique opportunity for you to experience and benefit from a chemistry role combining experience in both the industrial setting of AZ as well as the academic environment of the world renowned group of Professor Matthew Gaunt at the University of Cambridge

Accountabilities and Responsibilities:

As a postdoctoral researcher with AZ you will be expected to design and synthesise novel warheads (reactive groups) to target covalent modification of methionine residues present in a range of possible therapeutic targets. You will be immersed within a vibrant and productive chemistry group in a successful oncology drug hunting department as well as benefiting from a leading academic supervisor, Prof Matthew Gaunt from the University of Cambridge.

  • You will design chemical routes to, and synthesise novel methionine warheads and will assess their chemical reactivity with biologically relevant nucleophiles through the use of biochemical and MS-based assays and the use of NMR techniques.
  • You will undertake de novo design of novel methionine targeting electrophilic warheads based upon a range of functio nalities including hypervalent iodine. You will characterise the pharmaceutical properties and general stability of these new warheads and explore the potential of such warheads to label model proteins.
  • You will design synthetic routes to enable incorporation of suitable novel methionine targeting warheads into literature inhibitors and study their reactivity and biochemical potency
  • You will assist in the preparation of manuscripts publishing your findings

Essential Education and Experience:

  • Ph.D. in Synthetic Organic Chemistry
  • Excellent practical organic chemistry skills and chemical knowledge
  • A proven record of productivity, and problems solving ability
  • Strong interpersonal, organisational and communication skills

Desirable:

&l t;ul>

  • Familiarity with the principles of irreversible inhibitor design and a broad awareness of structure based drug design

  • An interest in the practical application of structural, computational and mechanistic information to inhibitor design

  • A proven record of work published in reputable scientific journals and presentations at scientific meetings

Skills and Capabilities:

As an Oncology Chemistry Postdoctoral Scientist you will:

  • Find solutions to synthetic chemistry problems and contribute to data analysis and warhead design
  • Design novel warheads and assess and interpret reactivity patterns
  • Aim to publish in high-impact chemistry and chemical biology journals

This is a 3 year programme. 2 years will be a Fixed Term Contract, wi th a 1 year extension which will be merit based. The role will be based at Cambridge, UK with a competitive salary on offer. To apply for this position, please click the apply link below.
