摘要:

We're currently looking for talented scientists to join our innovative academic-style Postdoc. From our centre in Cambridge, UK, you'll be in a global pharmaceutical environment. You'll take part in a comprehensive training programme, including a focus on drug discovery and development, given access to our existing Postdoctoral research, and encouraged to pursue your own independent research in cutting edge laboratories. It's a newly expanding programme spanning a range of therapeutic areas across a wide range of disciplines.

AstraZeneca (AZ) is a global, innovation-driven biopharmaceutical business that focuses on the discovery, development and commercialisation of prescription medicines for some of the world's most serious diseases. But we're more than one of the world's leading pharmaceutical companies. At AZ, we're proud to have a unique workplace culture that inspires innovation and collaboration. Here, employees are empowered to express diverse perspectives – and are made to feel valued, energised and rewarded for their ideas and creativity.

One of the greatest challenges when discovering and formulating effective medicines lies in mapping their pharmacokinetic properties – how they'll react within the human body. You'll ensure our drug products are safe for clini cal trials, and ultimately safe to deliver as novel treatments to patients. To make that happen, you'll be working with truly cutting-edge in silico, in vivo, cellular and molecular technologies to push the boundaries of predictive science.

We're currently looking for talented scientists to join our growing team developing human relevant in vitro liver models (microphysiological systems) to understand disease biology and enhancing the safety of our new medicines. This exciting opportunity will allow you to gain insights into basic liver cell biology, cellular cross-talk, human physiology, molecular biology and bioengineering. You would be developing a model representing hepatic zonation and recapitulating disease phenotype.

Hepatic microphysiological systems are emerging, incorporating flow and co-culture, providing improved metabolic function, pharmacokinetic, and toxicological recapitulation of the in vivo environment. You will be exploring liver cell function within state-of-the-art hepatic microphysiological systems and integrating hepatic cell function with safety endpoints.

Nonalcoholic fatty liver disease can progress from simple steatosis to nonalcoholic steatohepatitis, cirrhosis, and cancer – this progression is not understood. Your objectives will be to develop a NAFLD/NASH liver-on-a-chip to explore the basic biology underlying this disease in human cells. You will assess how liver function changes along the chip in normal, steatotic and inflammatory environments. You will integrate drug metabolism function with novel hepatic biomarkers.

You will use your knowledge to integrate with experts in hepatic function, drug metabolism, confocal microscopy, transcriptomics and mass spectrometric imaging. You will become part of a team of hepatic-focused researchers to better understand how the liver microphysiological system allows access to new biology occurring in human cells.

Essential Education and Experience Required:

  • Drive and carry out development and characterisation of advanced liver cell culture system
  • Integrate assessment of drug metabolism with liver biomarkers
  • Innovate and implement improvements to the models
  • Devise disease models and develop new biomarker assays
  • Plan, write, and publish high impact publications
  • Present data internally and at external scientific meetings
  • PhD or equivalent in a relevant area
  • Experience of working with primary cell cultures
  • Experience of hepatic biology
  • Experience of a range of standard biological techniques such as imaging and molecular biology

Desir able:

  • Experience in liver disease biology and knowledge of liver dysfunction
  • Skills and Capabilities required:
  • Innovative problem solver
  • Demonstrable ability to work under tight timelines
  • Excellent written and spoken English
  • Proven ability to produce publications
  • Good communication skills at a variety of levels
  • Ability to work in a cross-disciplinary team environment

Skills and Capabilities Required:

  • Hepatic cell handling
  • Drug metabolism understanding
  • Confocal microscopy
  • Quantification of oxidative stress
  • Gene/protein quantification methods

This is a 3 year programme. 2 years will be a Fixed Term Contract, with a 1 year extension which will be merit based. The role will be based at Cambridge UK with a competitive salary on offer. To apply for this position, please click the apply link below.
