Post-doc Positions in Translational Leukemia Research

The Translational Cancer and Leukemia Research Laboratory in the Division of Hematology and Medical Oncology, the Perlmutter Cancer Center and NYU School of Medicine invites PhD trained post-doctoral applications. The focus of the Laboratory is 
the molecular-genomic characterization of primary AML, MDS and MPNs in correlation to their response to commonly used therapies, in particular elucidating mechanisms of response and resistance to clinically used drugs in patients. Further to mechanistically understand genomic findings and to validate molecular vulnerabilities as sites for rational therapeutic interventions. Ultimately novel therapies and diagnostic approaches will be developed and directly translated into clinical application; several therapeutic concepts developed in the laboratory were already translated into clinical studies. Currently available projects are: 
1. DNA damage response and repair. Specifically understanding the mechanisms of the anti-leukemic activity of WEE1 and CHEK1 inhibition.
2. Characterizing epigenetic/hypomethylating agent resistance and design of rational combinations. 
3. Novel therapeutic approaches for myeloproliferative neoplasm.

The positions offer a unique opportunity to engage in and be part of the development of a newly build program at NYU and the Perlmutter Cancer Center for Translational Leukemia Research. As such, strong dedication and independence are required with the chance of gaining deep insights into state of the art translational cancer research and genomic-molecularly based personalized medicine. The applicant and projects will benefit from a scientifically stimulating environment, with extensive resources and opportunities to collaborate within NYU and externally.

Applicants are expected to have a strong background in molecular biology and cancer research, preferred in hematological malignancies and/or leukemias and be proficient in most molecular biology methods. They have obtained their PhD with excellent results, are detail oriented and have good record-keeping and oral/written communication skills. Applicant must be able to work independently in a fast-paced, dynamic research environment. All projetcs will involve mouse models and work on primary human specimens from patients and trials. In addition the applicants will be expected to participate in general laboratory maintenance. Manuscript writing, contributing to grant applications and potrntially participating in the mentoring of PhD-/MD-students are part of the post-doctoral experience.

There is close interaction with the PI and candidates will be actively involved in all aspects of the Translational Leukemia Program and early drug development, with access to the latest investigational anti-cancer drugs and developments. The Lab is funded by several agencies including the NCI, LLS and ASCOand at the institutional level.
