Information about the Research Project
Small improvements in efficiency and/or selectivity of nanoparticle catalysts, frequently used in the chemical industry, result in billions of euros of revenue increase. Catalytic nanoparticles are also of central importance for pollution mitigation and in sustainable energy technologies such as fuel cells, batteries and hydrogen storage. For these reasons, atomic level engineering of catalytic nanoparticles has an enormous potential impact.

The catalytic performance of nanoparticles is directly controlled by their size, shape and chemical composition. These properties determine which surface sites are exposed to the reactants and, therefore, activity and selectivity. Accordingly, significant advances in the shape-selected synthesis of nanoparticles have brought about exciting opportunities for capitalizing on such effects.

Information about the Research Group
The Moth-Poulsen Reseach Group focuses on molecules and nanomaterials for applications in solar energy storage, plasmonic sensing, and molecular electronics. The majority of the work is related to synthesis and charactarisation of new molecules and nanoparticles. The group also uses modern synthesis tools such as microwave chemistry, photochemistry, flow chemistry, as well as nanofabrication and high resolution electron microscopy techniques. The group currently consists of 1 professor, 3 postdocs and 9 PhD students. Group homepage: www.moth-poulsen.se

The project is a part of a larger collaborative effort between 7 young scientist at Chalmers, counting 2 ERCgrant holders, 2 SSF future research leaders and 3 KAW fellows. This team ensures amble possibilities for collabroation and leverage of the project. read more about the other groups here:

Information about the Department of Chemistry and Chemical Engineering
The Chemistry and Chemical Engineering is one of the largest department at Chalmers with research ranging from the most fundamental level to a level close to application in industry and society. The research activities reach from DNA-research and biomaterials to high temperature corrosion, catalysis and recycling. The Department is also heavily committed to teaching at the undergraduate, graduate, as well as postgraduate level in these areas.

Health, natural resources, sustainable energy and materials are some of our lead words and our vision is “Through curiosity and knowledge towards a sustainable world”.

We have approximately 300 employees, divided into four research and one administrative division. We are situated at campus Johanneberg in the middle of Gothenburg.

Major responsibilities
Execution of High Quality research in the field of nanoparticle synthesis and self-assembly.

Your major responsibility as postdoc is to perform your own research in a research group. The position also includes teaching on undergraduate and master's levels as well as supervising master's and/or PhD students to a certain extent. Another important aspect involves collaboration within academia and with society at large. The position is meritorious for future research duties within academia as well as industry/the public sector.

Position summary
Full-time Post-doc Stipend. The applicant must come from outside Sweden and must have a PhD not older than 2 years. The position is limited to a maximum of 1+1 years full-time research.

Qualifications
The successful candidate must have a PhD degree in Chemistry, Nanochemistry, Physcial Chemistry, Materials Science, or equivalent with a focus synthesis and self-assembly of nanoparticles at surfaces.

Previous experience with nanoscale characterisation tools such as AFMSEMTEMNMR is a merit. Previous experience with template directed self assembly and/or nanoparticle synthesis is a merit.

To be succesful you need to be higly motivated, have a analytical and problemsolving personality and, due to the interdisciplinary nature of the work, have excellent collaboration skills.

As you will work in an international enviroment we require very good English knowledge, both orally and in writing.

You are expected to be somewhat accustomed to teaching, and to demonstrate good potential within research and education.

Chalmers continuously strives to be an attractive employer. Equality and diversity are substantial foundations in all activities at Chalmers.

Application procedure
The application should be marked with Ref 20180065 and written in English. The application should be sent electronically and be attached as pdf-files, as below:

CV: (Please name the document as: CV, Surname, Ref. number) including:
• CV, include complete list of publications
• Previous teaching and pedagogical experiences
• Two references that we can contact.

Personal letter: (Please name the document as: Personal letter, Family name, Ref. number) including:
• 1-3 pages where you introduce yourself and present your qualifications.
• Previous research fields and main research results.
• Future goals and research focus. Are there any specific projects and research issues you are primarily interested in?

Other documents:
• Attested copies of completed education, grades and other certificates.

Please use the button at the foot of the page to reach the application form. The files may be compressed (zipped).

Application deadline: 15th of March 2018
