Job Description
The Zhao laboratory at New York Institute of Technology College of Osteopathic Medicine in Old Westbury, New York is recruiting a postdoctoral research associate to conduct pre-clinical/translational research in pediatric brain tumors starting in early 2018. Our laboratory utilizes cellular, genetic, and next-generation sequencing technologies to illustrate the dynamic transcriptomic and epigenetic landscapes in childhood brain tumors. This information will equip us to develop new therapies that specifically target tumor growth without damaging the developing brain. For more information on our research, please visit our recent publications at https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/26999738 and https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/28490517

We are seeking motivated individuals to use preclinical models and patient-derived tissues to understand the biology of pediatric brain tumors and to identify safer and more effective therapies. The postdoctoral researcher will focus on the role of molecular circuitry of ciliogenesis in cancer and brain development. In addition, the incumbent will be exposed to various training opportunities including teaching medical school class, grant and manuscript writing, supervision of undergraduate and medical students. The candidate will ideally have scientific creativity, written and verbal communication skills, and proficiency in scientific software and data analysis. Please send you communications to hzhao10@nyit.edu

Required Qualifications: Doctoral degree with relevant background in neuroscience, developmental biology, cancer biology, or genetics/genomics. Candidates with solid laboratory training in cell biological methods, experiences and background of in vivo electroporation and mouse surgery are encouraged to apply. Proficiency in mouse husbandry and in vivo mouse experimentation is desirable. Initial appointment will be for 3 years with re-appointment based on performance and productivity. Salary commensurate with accomplishment, fit for the projects, and experience.
