Postdoc position within microplastic in complex environmental samples 930150 : Roskilde, Denmark

 

Department of Bioscience at Aarhus University invites applications for a 2 year post doc position within the topic: “Microplastic in complex environmental samples - advanced methods for quantification and characterization of particle composition”. The position is available from as soon as possible.

 

The candidate’s research should focus on development, test and application of methods for sampling, processing, characterization and quantification of anthropogenic pollutant micro particles to increase our understanding of occurrence, fate processes and impact of plastic debris in aquatic environments with focus on Denmark and Greenland. The candidate will have access to a newly acquired FTIR spectrometer and will collaborate with other ongoing activities within the area.

 

The project will result in an optimized approach to sample analysis and data evaluation based on FTIR spectroscopy. This includes the development of a measurement procedure that can be used in connection with various sampling approaches, in particular to investigate different aquatic compartments, such as (sub-)surface, beach, sediment and biota.

 

Qualifications

The successful candidate must have a PhD in environmental sciences or engineering, marine ecology or a closely related field. Documented experience with spectroscopic identification of polymer materials as well as chemometric data analyses, preferably using MAT-lab is a clear advantage.

 

Organisation

Department of Bioscience is organized in 18 different sections working within the areas of freshwater, marine and terrestrial science, wild life ecology, biodiversity, physiology and ecotoxicology. The postdoc position is situated in the Section for Marine Diversity and Experimental Ecology that has a main focus on marine nutrients, diversity and habitats as well as ecotoxicology and environmental chemistry. The section is widely involved in monitoring and advisory work for the Ministry of Environment and Food.

 

The activities take place at a national and international level with main activities in Denmark, Northern Europa and maybe the Arctic.

The place of employment is Aarhus University, Department of Bioscience, and the working place is Frederiksborgvej 399, DK-4000 Roskilde, Denmark.

 

 

Application procedure

Short-listing is used. This means that after the deadline for applications – and with the assistance from the assessment committee chairman, and the appointment committee if necessary, – the head of department selects the candidates to be evaluated. All applicants will be notified whether or not their applications have been sent to an expert assessment committee for evaluation. The selected applicants will be informed about the composition of the committee, and each applicant is given the opportunity to comment on the part of the assessment that concerns him/her self. Once the recruitment process is completed a final letter of rejection is sent to the deselected applicants, including the main considerations emphasized during the selection process.

 

Formalities and salary range

Science and Technology refers to the Ministerial Order on the Appointment of Academic Staff at Danish Universities under the Danish Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation.

Appointment shall be in accordance with the collective labour agreement between the Danish Ministry of Finance and the Danish Confederation of Professional Associations. Salary depends on seniority as agreed between the Danish Ministry of Finance and the Confederation of Professional Associations.
