Postdoctoral Computational Biologist and Data Scientist Fellow : Boston, MA, United States

The Lohr Lab seeks a POSTDOCTORAL COMPUTATIONAL BIOLOGIST AND DATA SCIENTIST FELLOW, under the Lohr Lab to work on the analysis of new datasets generated in the context of our “liquid biopsy” efforts to help advance approaches to precision cancer medicine. We are developing "liquid biopsy" approaches to obtain biological information about cancer, simply from a vial of blood. We focus on circulating tumor cells (CTCs) and circulating cell-free DNA (cfDNA) that can be obtained from the circulation of cancer patients. Using next-generation sequencing and other high-throughput methods we can follow how cancer changes in real-time. These span whole genome, whole exome sequencing, targeted sequencing and RNA sequencing from single cells or from bulk. These technologies help us to gain insight into cancer, even when a tissue biopsy is not possible.

The person hired for this position will participate in the design and implementation of algorithms to analyze the data and integrate with other data sets including clinical outcomes data. This person will also help with the generation of tools needed for manipulating and preparing data for display and will also help maintain, support, and document shared tools, code base, and data sets. As the software infrastructure evolves, this position is likely to present diverse and flexible opportunities.
We have collaborations with clinical investigators, experimentalists, computer scientists, and disease experts at Dana-Farber Cancer Institute, at the Broad Institute and neighboring institutions. Characteristic duties:
• Applying existing statistical and computational methods to novel datasets
• Developing and maintaining computational tools
• Analyze next generation sequencing data including whole genome and whole exome sequencing, RNA sequencing of bulk and single cells, ChIP-Seq, ATAC-seq, etc.
• Explore existing literature to support and extend conclusions.
• Prepare research results for publication and for presentations at scientific meetings.

The qualified candidate will focus on new approaches for the analysis of transcriptome (RNA) and DNA sequencing data of circulating tumor cells, circulating cell-free DNA, and matching tumors to enable new discoveries in patients under multiple contexts. We seek someone with experience in data analysis who is excited about generating new biological insights by applying existing methods to novel datasets, and by developing new approaches to analyzing these data.
