Post Doc (m/f) Islet Biology

Responsibilities

As a member of our Islet Biology Research Team in the Diabetes Division in Frankfurt you will be part of an interdisciplinary team responsible in conducting experiments that are focusing on in vitro differentiation of human pluripotent stem cells (hPSC) into functional beta like cells to allow their reliable use for drug screening efforts. You will be assessing the efficiency of the in vitro differentiation using combination of transcriptomics / RNA SEQ, immunocytochemistry / FACS / High Content Imaging and functional assays (eg. GSIS).

Your task will be to establish

• reporter constructs, transcription factor tools using genome editing systems (e.g.CRISPR / CAS9 modules) or other virally based strategies for guidance and monitoring differentiation and expansion of the hPSC into functional beta-cells
• assay systems in stem cell derived beta-cells to monitor stress response and induced de-differentiation for future drug screening efforts

Requirements and Qualifications

• PhD as cell biologist, biologist or molecular biologist required
• Strong knowledge in the areas of molecular biology, stem cell biology, genetic engineering tools (CRISP/CAS9) and epigenetics are prerequisite
• Good experimental experience with FACS, retro/lentiviral systems, RNA SEQ
• Background in the area of metabolic disease and/or diabetes research
• Strong track record of scientific achievement (publications in peer reviewed journals)
• Excellent oral and written communication skills
• Strong team player with analytical skills and interest to work in a highly interdisciplinary area
• Fluent in English, knowledge of German is a plus

Terms of Employment

The position in the Stem Cell Lab of the Islet Biology Cluster is advertised for 1,5 years and will be based in Frankfurt, Germany.
