Howard Hughes Medical Institute (HHMI) is a science philanthropy whose mission is to advance biomedical research and science education for the benefit of humanity. We empower exceptional scientists and students to pursue fundamental questions about living systems, and work to share scientific discoveries with researchers, students, and science-curious individuals around the world.
Founded in 1953 by aviator and industrialist Howard R. Hughes, HHMI is headquartered in Chevy Chase, Maryland, and employs more than 2,500 people across the U.S. Visit hhmi.org/careers to learn more about working at HHMI.
The Chapman lab is looking for a highly motivated postdoctoral researcher to study molecular aspects of Ca2+ regulated exocytosis. Successful candidates will perform recombinant protein purification and reconstitution of integral membrane proteins into liposomes, nanodiscs, and planar lipid bilayers. In many cases these proteins will be tagged with a variety of fluorescent probes to conduct single molecule experiments. The goal is to probe the structure and dynamics of the fusion machinery and of fusion pores, and to determine how these processes are regulated by lipids, proteins, and other molecules. This postdoctoral researcher is also expected to contribute ideas, interact and collaborate with other lab members and other laboratories, and to prepare manuscripts for publication.
