Postdoc position in experimental hadron physics

£Attractive | Sweden | 12 Jul 2017

Uppsala University is an international research university focused on the development of science and education. Our most important assets are all the individuals who with their curiosity and their dedication make Uppsala University one of Sweden’s most exciting work places. Uppsala University has 40,000 students, 7,000 employees and a turnover of SEK 6,5 billion.

Starting date: September 2017 or on a date mutually agreed upon.

Research area: Experimental hadron physics

The Division of Nuclear Physics at the Department of Physics and Astronomy focuses on experimental hadron physics and offers the strongest research environment in this field in Sweden. Our experimental activities are carried out in an international environment at electron-positron colliders, the BESIII experiment at the BEPC-II, Beijing and the KLOE-2 experiment at DAPHNE, Frascati. We are also actively involved in preparations for the upcoming PANDA experiment at FAIR, Darmstadt. The research is concentrated on hyperon structure and production dynamics together with light meson decays. More information about these activities can be found at www.physics.uu.se/research/nuclear-physics.

BES III offers a unique opportunity to study the electromagnetic structure of hadrons. In particular, new insights into the inner structure can be obtained by studying hyperons and their polarisation.

The BES III experiment has recently, on initiative from e.g. the Uppsala group, collected an unprecedented amount of energy scan data for measurements of hadron form factors.

We are looking for someone who is interested in and excited about participating in the analysis of these data and in the planning and implementation of further data taking. This post doc is also expected to participate in international meetings, workshops and beam times abroad and take responsibility for simulations, analysis and interpretation of data.

Qualifications: The applicant is expected to have a PhD degree in Physics, or equivalent, with a solid background in experimental hadron physics. In particular, experience is desirable from data analysis and Monte Carlo simulations from experiments at international facilities, handling multi-particle final states. The work is implemented in an international environment and therefore, good oral and written proficiency in English is required.

Please note that, according to regulations, the applicant must hold a PhD at the time of last application date and that it must not be older than three years (parental leave excluded).

Application: The application should include a statement of research interest, CV, certi?cates of exams, degrees and grades, a copy of the Master thesis, a list of publications and other relevant materials. In addition, a list of references, who we may contact for a statement, is encouraged.

Uppsala University strives to be an inclusive workplace that promotes equal opportunities and attracts quali?ed candidates who can contribute to the University’s excellence and diversity. We welcome applications from all sections of the community and from people of all backgrounds.

Pay: Individual salary

Starting date: September 2017 or on a date mutually agreed upon.

Type of employment: Fixed term position for two years.

Working hours: 100%
