Post-Doc Research Scientist

Field(s) of Specialization: Medicine, Cardiology, Atherosclerosis, Metabolism, Functional genomics of human heart disease.

Description:

The Reilly Cardiovascular Precision Medicine research group, seeks a post-doctoral research scientist. The successful candidate will have grounding in human genetics, functional genomics and molecular biology in pursuit of the genetic and molecular basis of complex diseases. Ideally with training and experience in genetic discovery (e.g., GWAS, exome/DNA-seq, RNA-seq, ChIP-seq etc.) and related functional model systems (e.g., human induced pluripotent stem cells, gene editing, humanized mouse models cell modes).  He/she will pursue functional genomic studies of human loci for cardiometabolic traits. Projects are NIH-funded and require a post-doctoral lead on specific genetic loci and mechanisms for atherosclerosis and complex cardimetabolic traits and includes generation and analysis of cell and tissue specific genomic data (DNAseq, RNAseq, ChIPseq), cell signaling and biology in primary human cells and hIPSC-derived cells, including gene-editing, and mouse models (knockout and transgenic) for cardiometabolic studies.  The post-doctoral period is for a minimum of two years and the candidate will be mentored towards an independent academic career. An ability to work independently as well as in a strong team-science environment is required.

Minimum Qualifications for Grade
Applicant MUST meet these minimum qualifications to be considered an applicant

Requires a PhD, MD PhD or equivalent doctoral training. Experience in human genetics, functional genomics and molecular biology including cell systems and mouse models of human cardiometabolic disease.

Additional Position-Specific Qualifications
Applicants meeting these qualifications will be considered stronger candidates

Experience with analysis and bioinformatics of genome wide data (SNP-GWAS, exome/whole genome data, RNAseq, ChIPseq) e.g., in constitutional or cancer genomics; experience with primary cell and stem cell tools in functional genomics; experience with mouse models and in vivo phenotyping of vascular or metabolic traits. Comfortable in team science environment that includes laboratory, computational, biostatistical and clinical applications and interactions. Prior post-doctoral experience (1-2 years) in relevant areas a plus but not required.
