One NIH (T32 Training Grant) funded Postdoctoral position is available in the Mahjoub lab to study the biology of the microtubule cytoskeleton. Specifically, our lab is focused on understanding the functions of the centrosome and cilium in cells, both in vitro and in vivo. These highly conserved microtubule-based organelles act as signaling hubs that control diverse aspects of cell-cycle progression, cell differentiation, polarity, and migration. Defects in the structure and function of centrosomes and cilia lead to a wide range of human disease conditions called “ciliopathies”. These include developmental defects such as polycystic kidney disease, nephronophthisis, polydactyly, infertility, and cancer. We use cutting edge proteomic, biochemical and cell biological methods to delineate the regulation of centrosome-cilium assembly and function.

Qualifications: Candidates should hold a recent Ph.D. (or M.D./Ph.D.) withless than 2 years of prior postdoctoral experience, and a demonstrated research and publication record with AT LEAST one first author publication. We are looking for an individual who is passionate about developing a career in academic science. You should be ready to engage in research activities related to human kidney and lung disease, encompassing interactions with both academia and industry.

Requirements: Candidates MUST HAVE a solid track record working with mammalian cell culture, with extensive knowledge in molecular biology and biochemistry methods. Experience with mouse models is a bonus. Preference will be given for experience with kidney and/or lung disease models in mice or rats.
